🏛️ Civil Services & UPSC for Engineers
"The Power & The Prestige"
Many engineers leave code to run the country. It is the toughest exam in India.
🇮🇳 CSE (Civil Services Exam) - IAS / IPS / IFS
- Role: District Magistrate (IAS), Superintendent of Police (IPS).
- Why Engineers do it: Power to change society, supreme job security, social status.
- The Struggle: Success rate is 0.2%. You will compete with doctors, lawyers, and arts graduates.
- Engineering Optional: You can choose "Civil", "Mechanical" or "Electrical" as your optional subject. Note: Computer Science is NOT an optional subject in UPSC CSE.
⚙️ ESE (Engineering Services Exam) - IES
- Role: Indian Engineering Services (IES). You work in Railways, CPWD, Telecommunications.
- Why: You stay an engineer but get Govt perks. "The Technical Bureaucrats".
- Eligibility: Only Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecom.
- Bad News for CSE: Computer Science students are NOT eligible for ESE. You have to write the exam in Electronics (tough) or choose a different path.
🏦 Other Govt Exams for CSE
Since ESE is closed for CS, look at these: 1. ISRO (Centralized Recruitment Board): Scientist/Engineer 'SC' post. 2. BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research): OCES/DGFS Scientific Officer. 3. NIC (National Informatics Centre): Scientist 'B'. 4. STQC / NIELIT: Technical roles in Govt IT bodies. 5. Bank IT Officer (IBPS SO): Manage bank servers/databases.
